Having a large follower fan base, I figured that I should inform my followers about Sam Pepper’s latest “shenanigans.” My dashboard has been blowing up about Sam Pepper’s latest video. For those of you who have not seen it, Sam Pepper, a famous Youtuber with 2 million+ subscribers, posted a video of him sexually assaulting a multitude of females as a “prank.” Basically, he pinched girls’ buttocks without their consent. With a fake hand in his sweatshirt and his real hand pinching their bottoms, he assaulted a multitude of young females and brushed his perversions off as a “prank.” The first girl in the video specifically asserted, “I don’t like that” and Sam Pepper laughed. She awkwardly went along; yet, one could see that she was awkward, scared, and uncomfortable.
This video has caused a huge amount of controversy. I do not see what is so controversial; sexual assault is sexual assault. A prank is defined as a joke that is not harmful, nor does it cause either party to feel uncomfortable. His video was not a prank. No, this is not a matter of feminism. This is a matter of sexual assault.
Under the comments, there are several comments from straight white males claiming that the girls “should be glad,” “were asking for it,” etc. For anyone who does not see this video as a problem, what if a similar situation were to happen to you? Targeting straight, white males who do not see this as a problem: A gay, male stranger approaches you. He asks you for directions. As you glance away, you feel a hand on your crotch. You realize, it was the gay stranger. Feel uncomfortable yet? Then, he admits to his little “prank” and laughs it off.
Stop excusing Sam Pepper’s actions. He is using his fame as an excuse to harass girls. Touching someone inappropriately without prior consent is sexual harassment. If you still do not see the issue, you are part of the problem.
